Brisbane Broncos Off Season News Snippets-
* The Broncos were back in training last Friday, 65 days after claiming the 2006 NRL crown. With the team travelling to the UK for their World Club Challenge match against St Helens on the 24th of February next year, Bronco's players fronted up to pre-season training in preperation for what is sure to be a gruelling and demanding premiership defence.
Broncos trainer, Dean Benton, was impressed with his charges when they fronted up for their weigh ins and skin fold tests, declaring that his players are already primed for action.
"The players presented in great shape and were very keen to get started," said Benton.
"Obviously there's a long road ahead, but if the first session is anything to judge them by, I am looking forward to the next three weeks."
Brisbane's eight Tri Nations representatives have been told to not to front up to trainig until January 15, after having just completed one of the longest and most physically demanding seasons on record.
* To commemorate a historic, record breaking season by their inspirational skipper Darren Lockyer, the Broncos have released a special, limited edition collector's jersey. Priced at $250 and only available through the Brisbane Broncos website, the jersey was created to honour one of the most dominant international rugby league seasons by an individual player.
In season 2006, Darren Lockyer captained his NRL team to premiership glory, the Australian Kangaroos to Tri-Nations victory, and led Queensland to a 2-1 series win in the State of Origin. Lockyer also won the Golden Boot, awarde to the best international player of the year.
* The Brisbane Broncos have been forced to sever ties with the Towwomba Clydesdales due to financial reasons. This years QRL runners up, could not financially sustain their existence beyond next year, and have regretfully had to withdraw from the QRL immediately.
* Former point scoring Bronco whiz, Michael De Vere has rejoined the Brisbane Broncos - but as a development officer. The recently retired 29 year old will partake in the development and coaching program currently being run by the Broncos in Brisbane's East.
