Brisbane Broncos

The WOW Brisbane Broncos are pleased to announce the re-signing of goal-kicking forward Corey Parker for a further three seasons.

The 25-year old, who just two weeks ago booted 10 goals against the Panthers to break the record for number of goals in a premiership match, is in his tenth season with the Brisbane club, and hopes to remain a one-club man.

“I have no real aspirations to go anywhere else,” said Parker.

“I have always wanted to play for the Broncos and it is something I have been fortunate enough to do for quite a few years now.

“I am a Bronco through and through and owe the club a bit of a debt for helping me make that dream come true.

“And I certainly hope to stay with the club for quite a few years yet.”

Broncos cheif executive officer Bruno Cullen praised his clubs development system, declaring that Parker has become a great asset to the club.

“It is wonderful to sign Corey for three more years,” said Cullen.

“We are signing a player who has come through our development system from a young age, being a former Colt of the Year.

“He is now a senior mentor in the NRL squad, has become an 80-minute player, and a wonderful goal kicker to boot.”

PJ OK after Injury Scare

March 6th 2008 06:41
MEDIA RELEASE - Brisbane Broncos Media

Brisbane Broncos

New Brisbane Broncos recruit PJ Marsh has been given the all clear after injuring his ankle at a Broncos training run in Brisbane this morning.

Marsh, the former Parramatta and Queensland Origin hooker, looked to be in complete agony as he left the field after rolling his ankle at this mornings training run, but was given the all clear this afternoon by Broncos Physiotherapist, Rob Godbolt.

“I would say we are pretty optimistic with it,” said Godbolt.

“He has injured it before so we are hopeful he has just irritated some old damage.

“We won’t know conclusively until the next few days.

“For now we will just treat it aggressively and off-load the joint, and see what comes out in the end.”

The Broncos kick off their 2008 campaign at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday week, and are already struggling in the hooking department, due to the minor squad injury to regular number 9, Michael Ennis.

Marsh was placed in a protective boot, which he will wear for a 48-hour period.

The 27-year-old is not expected to undergo scans at this time.

Marsh said he had felt the same pain before.

“It’s just an old injury I have done a few times,” he said.

“Ten days is enough time – I don’t really have any concerns I will be right to play in round one.”

In other NRL News, Parramatta stars Jarryd Hayne, Junior Paulo and Wellar Hauraki have all been stood down for next weeks Round 1 clash with the Canterbury Bulldogs.

The young trio have also been fined $2000 each after their involvement in Monday mornings altercation in Kings Cross, where Hayne is alleged to have been shot at.

The Eels playing group was informed of the decision earlier today following discussions between Parramatta CEO Denis Fitzgerald, head coach Michael Hagan, and members of the team leadership group and senior team management.

"The Parramatta club has been left with no choice but to take firm action, which is why we have made the decision to stand down Jarryd Hayne, Weller Hauraki and Junior Paulo from round one," Mr. Fitzgerald said.

"Monday morning was the latest in a line of behavioral incidents featuring alcohol for the players involved and we hope that missing round one will send them and the rest of the playing group the strongest of messages.

"Their involvement in this incident has been highly damaging for the team, the club, our fans and sponsors, and most of all to the players personally.

"It is high time we said enough is enough."

Bennett era comes to an end

February 5th 2008 08:45
MEDIA RELEASE - Brisbane Broncos

Brisbane Broncos

Brisbane Broncos coach Wayne Bennett today ended speculation as to his coaching future, by releasing the following statement.

"On December 10 2007 I informed certain members of the Brisbane Broncos Board of my intention to resign at the completion of Season 2008. I was requested to take a ‘cooling off period’, which I agreed to. If my position had not changed by the end of January 2008 it was agreed that my intentions would be made public after the scheduled Board Meeting on Tuesday February 5.

Last night I officially informed the Board of my resignation.

My time has come - not as a Coach – but as the Coach of the Broncos. The Broncos have always believed it is better for a player to leave a year too early than a year too late. I have always believed there should be no exception, even for the Coach.

I have had a wonderful career at the Broncos. In fact it has been an unbelievable experience.

Firstly, I would like to thank the players I have coached. Our organization has been built on a culture of hard work, mateship and a never say die attitude in all that we do. Because of their attitude to these three principles they have been rewarded many times over. I have always felt supported by the players I was coaching and as a coach who can ask for more? I am deeply indebted to them.

The staff, I have had the privilege of working with were and are the best in their field. They have been outstanding and totally committed to the Broncos. They may not have received the accolades the players received but they helped to set the standard and work ethic that the current players enjoy.

To the original owners, Paul Morgan, Barry Maranta, Gary Balkin and Steve Williams – thank you for the belief and confidence you had in me. We shared the same ideals when it came to building the club, it was the hard way, but it was the only way the club was going to have long term success. Those establishing days were the best and I am so grateful to have been a part of them.

Finally to the fans, you have made my experiences something special. Your support has been at times more than I anticipated, but all the more worthwhile. I have received letters, pats on the back and encouragement – more than I thought was possible. Personally, the years 1992 and 2006 were the happiest the club has seen you all and I feel privileged to have shared them with you. .

My intention is to continue to coach - either in the Northern Hemisphere or the Southern Hemisphere. My time has not come to an end as a Coach.

I am currently not in negotiations with any other club. I am as committed to the Broncos as I have always been. I owe that not only to myself, but to the players, the staff and the fans.

At this time my intention is to not make any further comment regarding my future as we at the Broncos have a season in front of us and as always I want the focus to be on the team. My commitment is to the team and that has always been and will always be my first priority.
I ask that this wish is respected."

Cheers,

StephenP
