Souths Craig Wing On Crutches

December 24th 2008 08:38
IT WAS a sight to drain the Christmas spirit out of every South Sydney fan. Craig Wing was sighted on crutches, visiting an orthopedic specialist yesterday.

But before deja vu hits Souths supporters - with the prized recruit having played just seven minutes in the first 15 rounds of last season after dislocating his shoulder in round one - Wing has assured fans that he doesn't have a broken ankle as first thought, and plans to be ready for Souths' first-round clash with the Roosters on March 15.

"No, not at all. I don't have a broken ankle," Wing said when contacted after the North Sydney sighting.

"I just had a spur - a minor spur - taken off my ankle. I'm not in plaster or anything, I just have a stretchy, elastic wrap around it, but yes, I am on crutches at the moment.

"I've just got to stay off it for a week. The doc actually said after a couple of days I should be on one crutch and then, a couple of days after that, I should be walking. It's just a minor thing and I'll be back in training in a couple of weeks."

Wing revealed he had also undergone surgery to "have a hernia reinforced" two weeks ago, and it was due to having that operation he decided to have the spur removed from his right ankle.

"That [the hernia] has pretty much healed now," he said.

"I decided to get a couple of things done now because you get the break over Christmas and it was more convenient to get it done now. Then, as a result, it will have as little impact as possible on my training.

"With the ankle, I would have had to get it done eventually, but it could have probably waited until I retired. But I thought because I was getting my hernia done, I might as well get the ankle done now because the recovery time on my ankle is a lot less than what the hernia repair is. It made sense to get it done at the same time."

Wing had the ankle surgery done last Wednesday and has been "resting at home" since, before being spotted in North Sydney yesterday. Wing will join his teammates when training resumes on January 5.

"Oh, I'll be back on the 5th. I'll be in the rehab squad for a little while, but I'll be back the same time as everyone else," he said. Asked if the plan was to be ready for the trial matches and then that first-round grudge match with his former club, Wing said: "That's exactly what I'm aiming for."

Jaiman Lowe Pleads Guilty

May 28th 2007 05:26
MEDIA RELEASE - South Sydney RLFC

South Sydney interchange forward Jaiman Lowe today accepted a four match suspension for his sickening hit on Gold Coast Titans centre Brett Delaney at Carrara Stadium on Saturday night.

Lowe was today charged by the NRL judiciary with a grade five striking charge for his 77th minute hit on Delaney in Souths 25-18 loss to the Titans, with the fiery prop issuing a statement this afternoon.

“I regret the actions that I took on the field on Saturday night and I will accept the suspension,” Lowe said.

“I feel that I have let down the Rabbitohs’ Members, sponsors and fans, and the whole South Sydney family including my coaches, team mates and the Club owners.

“To that end I will be using my time off the field to provide more help with the Souths Cares community initiative so I can put something back into the community that I feel I have let down over this incident. I will be working with Souths Cares Manager Simon Dirs who is putting together a programme for me.

“I’m looking forward to putting this behind me and working hard to regain my first grade position once the suspension is finished. I want to concentrate on my football from this point forward.

“This is the only statement I wish to make on the incident and won’t be conducting any further interviews.”
