Gold Coast Titans Update
The 2007 season of the NRL welcomes the introduction of the newest NRL franchise, the Gold Coast Titans. When the NRL granted approval to the latest Gold Coast NRL bid in May last year, some factions of the rugby league community aired their disdain towards the move, sighting the failed bids of the Gold Coast Giants, Seagulls and Chargers as proof of a 3rd Queensland NRL franchise not being strategically viable.
But the Titans franchise has proved thus far, that they will be stronger than their predecessors, with an exceptionally well organised, meticulous and professional organisation aiming to prove the doomsayers wrong. The Titans have established what looks to be not only a talented playing roster for season 2007, but have concentrated their efforts on enlisting a talented, experienced and business savvy core group of professionals to complete the day to day running of the football club.
News Tidbits
*The Titans this week unveiled their new major mascot for their 2007 inaugural season, with the introduction of the blue behemoth – BLADE!!!
Blade was introduced to the Gold Coast on Thursday at the Runaway Bay Sports Super Centre, and the two metre tall ball of muscle is sure to be a favourite with the kids.
"He's an imposing figure and the creation of Blade has taken more than a year with designers determined to break the mould and create a mascot that Titans fans and the NRL will be proud of," said the club's commercial manager Cameron Murray.
"Blade will be at all our games and community events. He is your meet and greet style of mascot who is targeted more at our younger fans."
* The Titans also announced their shorts sponsor for their 2007 kickoff, with local construction company David Taylor Building Services (DTBS) signing a three year deal. This ensures the Titans will head into season 2007 with some familiar names for sponsorship – JetStar, Audi, Reebok, SeaFM, ABC Bricks and now DTBS.
* On the same day of the unveiling of mascot Blade, the Titans also announced the Runaway Bay Sports Centre as their training base for 2007.
The Super Centre has held numerous sporting events and clinics over the years, with the Queensland Origin team, Australian Rugby Union Wallabies team, and various Masters Sports Events featuring prominently.
* And last of all, the Titans have announced their Cheerleader tryouts for next year, with the aim to have both a senior squad of 15-20, and a junior squad of roughly the same size. Anyone interested can contact Ikin Dance Australia on 07 5522 1863 to reserve a place.
