One of the world's best players, North Queensland Cowboy's Johnathan Thurston is recovering from shoulder surgery better than expected and could make a possible return to the NRL during the first month of the 2008 season.
With reconstructive surgery done on both shoulders during the off-season, the world's best half-back was not expected to play again until round 5 but his recuperation from the operation has impressed Cowboys head trainer Glen Murphy so much that the club has now had to reassess the talismanic player's return date.
Murphy said that:
"He's ahead of schedule.
"We will just have to see how he pulls up closer to game time.
"At this stage he is doing well and doing everything asked of him but we won't know until closer to the season start (when he returns)."

Thurston's speedy recovery has come as a boost to the reigning premiers and the two-time Dally M medal winner's own representative hopes of playing in Australia's clash with New Zealand in May.
The Cowboys kick off the new season against Gold Coast followed by clashes with Wests Tigers, arch rivals Brisbane and Parramatta.
