Lote resign with the ARU, Waratahs
After six months of intense speculation, dual international Lote Tuquiri decided to finish his career in rugby union, accepting a 5 year deal this afternoon.
The robust winger attracted plenty of attention last year, with NRL clubs Brisbane, Gold Coast, Cronulla, Sydney Roosters and South Sydney all showing interest. But the rumoured $600,000 a season price tag proved to be to expensive for the salary capped code.
While the ARU won't make an official comment until 2pm tomorrow, ARU chief executive Gary Flowers was ecstatic with the dynamic Waratah's decision.
"I am pleased Lote has reached his decision," he said today.
"It has been almost five months of uncertainty and speculation and for the sake of both Lote and Australian rugby, it is a good thing a deal has finally been reached."
"Now we can all concentrate on the Rugby World Cup in France."
Walker's On with the Titans
Reformed rugby league bad boy Chris Walker today agreed to a one year contract with the Jetstar Gold Coast Titans.
Walker's impressive trial game form, and his new mature approach secured the talented utility a contract with his fifth NRL club in 8 years.
Titans officials have been impressed with both Walker's attitude and renewed vigour, with the former Origin representative shedding 8kg in the off season under the watchful eye of diciplinarian and noted conditioner, Billy Johnstone.
"It's pretty important. It's probably my last chance (in the NRL)", said Walker at todays announcement.
"I'm really grateful they can have me and hopefully I can stay for a long time.
"I'm feeling like a rookie at the moment. I feel like it's my first year in first grade. I'm that excited for the season to start."
While the Titans may have gained a winger, it looks as if they have also lost one, with reports today from the UK stating that retired international Brian Carney, maybe looking at returning to football.
Reports state that as many as 5 rugby league and union clubs are chasing the dual international winger, with Titans Managing Director Michael Searle giving permission for Carney to hold negotiations, but reitereating that the fledling club must be financially compensated for such a deal.
NRL Stars resign
Over the past week, NRL stars Sonny Bill Williams, Paul Gallen, Nathan Hindmarsh, Steve Price and Nathan Cayless all resigned lengthy contracts with their NRL clubs.
Williams deal was the most widely reported, with the Canterbury Bulldogs whiz kid accepting a five year deal, seeing him staying a Bulldog until 2012.
Cronulla backrower accepted a 4 year deal with the Sharks last Tuesday, seeing him remain in the Shire until 2011. New Zealand Warriors skipper Steve Price will finish his career in New Zealand after accepting to play on until the end of the 2008 season.
Parramatta's two inspirational forwards both re-signed with the Eels this week, with Hindmarsh and Cayless to stay in the west of Sydney until the end of the 2010 season.

Not in the slightest!
The reason being is that Lote standed to receive double what rugby league could offer him - I know players declare that it's not always about the money, but any sane person would take a $1million a season over $600,000 a season (endoresements excluded).
My viewis that once Brisbane pulled out of the race due to salary cap committments, Lote was always going to stay in Union.
