South Sydney Rabbitohs VS Newcastle Knights @ BlueTongue Stadium, 2pm, 15/04/2007

Newcastle make the short trip down the M1 to Gosford this afternoon looking to start a new era against a South Sydney team hurting after their thumping at the hands of a rampant Bulldogs outfit last Friday.

With the retirement of Knights legend Andrew Johns still fresh in their minds, the much improved Rabbitohs can be assured that they will encounter a fired up Knights side looking to establish a successful new era without the rugby league legend.

Souths on the other hand have their own demons to arrest, after suffering a demoralising defeat at the hands of a dominant Bulldogs forward pack last Friday. Their task will be made that much harder with the unfortunate loss to injury of forward enforcer David Kidwell for the rest of the season.

In an evenly matched clash, expect early fireworks between the two forward packs as both try to gain an early ascendency over their rivals. As both teams have fairly similar skill levels in the backline, the winner of this match will be the team who dominate the ruck area. With Knights Origin skipper Danny Buderus directing the show, expect a close victory to Newcastle in a thriller.

Prediction – Newcastle by 6

South Sydney Rabbitohs VS Canterbury Bulldogs @ Telstra Stadium, 7.30pm, 6/04/2007

The rejuvenated South Sydney Rabbitohs take on a struggling but powerful Canterbury Bulldogs line-up tonight, in what will be a fiery forward battle played out in front of a packed Telstra Stadium crowd.

This Good Friday clash marks the return battle between firebrand forwards David Kidwell and Wilie Mason, with the two big guns set to continue their Trans-Tasman rivalry which started in last seasons Tri-Nations series. Kidwell finished on top of the giant Bulldogs prop on that occasion, but rest assured that big Willie will not only be out to extract revenge, but also to secure back to back victories for the slow starting Canterbury outfit.

The return of Bulldogs whiz kid Sonny Bill Williams has been offset by the loss of Mark O'Meley through suspension, while the Rabbitohs have managed to name the same line-up in their past four matches, something which has been unheard of in recent seasons at Redfern.

The dominant foward pack will decide the victor of this match, with both sets of backs fairly equal in terms of talent and speed. If this game turns out to be anything like last Friday nights golden point thrillers, than back the Bulldogs to get home on the strength of Hazem El Masri's superior goal kicking skills.

Will the Bunnies prevail on Good Friday, or will the Bulldogs finally show the form they are capable of? I have gone for Canterbury to secure just their second victory of the season in what will be a tight game, purely on the back of El Masri's brilliant goal kicking percentage.

Canterbury Bulldogs –
Luke Patten, Hazem El Masri, Daryl Millard, Willie Tonga, Trent Cutler, Daniel Holdsworth, Ben Roberts, Chris Armit, Corey Hughes, Willie Mason, Sonny Bill Williams, Andrew Ryan ©, Reni Maitua
Bench - Dallas McIlwain, Nick Kouparitsas, Kane Cleal, Jarrad Hickey

South Sydney Rabbitohs –
David Peachey, Nathan Merritt, Nigel Vagana, Shannon Hegarty, Paul Mellor, Jeremy Smith, Joe Williams, Peter Cusack ©, Daniel Irvine, Roy Asotasi, David Kidwell ©, David Fa'alogo, John Sutton
Bench - Shane Rigon, Dean Widders, Luke Stuart, Scott Geddes, Manase Manuokafoa
