Round 5 Preview - Dragons VS Storm
April 14th 2007 06:01
St George-Illawarra Dragons VS Melbourne Storm @ Oki Jubilee Stadium, Saturday 14/04/07 5.30pm
There was plenty of soul searching this week at Dragons training, as coach Nathan Brown searched for answers to his side’s meek 40-4 capitulation to the Sharks last Monday night.
The once watertight Dragons defence was burst open at will by the confident Sharks, while the joint ventures attacking game was virtually non-existent. Things don’t get any better for the Dragons this week, as they take on one of the premiership frontrunners and favourites for the 2007 NRL crown, the Melbourne Storm.
Even though the Storm is undefeated so far this season, they have yet to dominate an opposition as they did so regularly last season, with the jury still out on the move to five-eight of dazzling centre, Greg Inglis.
Unfortunately for the Storm’s whiz kid, Inglis is set to miss the next month of football due to a knee injury, with the Melbourne side also without the services of handy interchange, Michael Crocker. The Dragons have their own injury concerns heading into this match, with big prop Jason Ryles and teenage fullback Brett Morris also under an injury cloud for this crucial home match for the Dragons.
While the Dragons are a much better team at Oki Jubilee Stadium, it is hard to see the struggling joint venture team causing an upset against the Melbourne Storm juggernaut. The Storm aren’t in the best of form at the moment, but after the Dragons shocking effort last Monday night, coupled with their short turn around, you would be a mug not to back the Storm in this one.
Prediction – Melbourne by 8
