ArnoldCameron Smith to captain Melbourne Storm

World player of the year 2007, Cameron Smith, will captain the reigning premiers for the upcoming season after convincing coach Craig Bellamy to give him a fair crack of the whip at the captaincy on a permanent basis.
The 24 year-old Test rake has also led Australia before in a match against New Zealand in October 2007 and will take on the role as sole captain of Melbourne Storm after Bellamy opted to scrap the rotational captaincy policy of the last two years.
"Cameron was always the chosen one to be the captain but I just didn't think he was ready," said Bellamy at the announcement of a sleeve sponsorship deal with Suzuki.
"After the Origin series I thought it was the right time to put him in there and his form certainly didn't fall off with the added responsibility.
"He deserves that captaincy role now and I'm sure he'll hang on to it for many years." he added.
