NRL Casualty Ward - Updated
March 6th 2007 03:22
Another week of injury plagued NRL Trials has again raised the validity merits of playing pre-season Trial Matches. While most NRL Coaches and players came out during the week defending the merits of playing these trials, the question still has to be asked as to why the NRL has not orgainsed an official pre-season knockout tournament, to replace the current trial format.
At least if clubs are competing for a pre-season trophy or small amount of prize money, then the injuries would at least be compensated to an extent. But it must be frustrating for both players and coaches alike, recognising the fact that they have may risk injury for no apparent reason or reward, other than showcasing the game in country areas, and utilising the fitness factors of the trial.
Below is a club by club list on the progress of players either injured in trials, or recovering from off season surgery. If anyone is aware of other injuries that are not listed, than please provide details in the comments section below.
What do you think - Are Trial Matches worth potentail injuries?
