NRL Men of the Round - Round 4 (Part 3)
April 12th 2007 09:20
Here is a club by club analysis of your clubs most valubale player from Round 4 of the NRL.
Join us over the weekend for an in depth match preview for each game of the coming round, while we will be providing match reports on Friday's Penrith VS Parramatta, Saturday's St George-Illawarra VS Melbourne match, Monday's Canberra VS Sydney game and an as yet undecided Sunday match.
We will also be running live scores on Friday and Saturday night, with regular competition table updates throughout the weekend.
Cheers,
StephenP
Newcastle Knights - Kurt Gidley
With the loss of Andrew Johns the night before Saturday's crucial encounter with the Storm, the young Newcastle utility really grabbed the play making role with both hands to guide his charges around the park. Gidley will more than likely assume the number six jersey now with Johns' enforced retirement, which means his days as the Knights custodian could be numbered.
Gidley was at his enterprising best against the Storm, with his 20 hit-ups netting 160 metres in attack, whilst his positional play at the back really hampered the ususally unflappable Storm kick chase defence.
North QLD Cowboys - Ray Cashmere
Cashmere was impressive off the bench for the Cowboys last Saturday night, as the hulking prop was forced to play more game time due to the horrific injury sustained by Luke O'Donnell.
Cashmere's 17 hit-ups for 163 metres gained was a match high, while the big unit was also able to chime in for 17 tackles as the Cowboys limped to their fourth successive victory.
Parramatta Eels - Nathan Hindmarsh
It is no co-incidence that the Eels first two wins of the season have come with the return of the inspirational backrower from injury. 'Hindy' again led from the front after the withdrawal of regular skipper Nathan Cayless, with the stocky Eels scoring two tries, 36 tackles and completing 15 hit-ups for a match high of 182 metres.
Hindmarsh's first try was typical of the determination and vision that this workaholic has become renowned for, with his 70 metre special releiving the early pressure off a clearly rattled Eels side.
Penrith Panthers - Luke Priddis
Love him or hate him, Luke Priddis is one of those players that every team must have in order to acheive success. Whether it be his cheeky niggling of the opposition, his darting dummy half runs or his tireless defence - if Priddis fires than so does his team.
Due to Penrith's poor ball control in their loss to the Titans, it happened to be Priddis's tireless workrate in defence that sees him grab his teams Stats man of the Round acolade. Priddis made 46 tackles against a relentles barrage of Titans attack, while the nuggety hooker was able to make 112 metres from just 8 hit-ups.
