NRL News Footy Tips - Round 12
May 30th 2008 00:38
Round 12 of the NRL will be another nightmare for tipsters, with every single team having a fair chance of victory. Don’t be surprised if there are a few upsets this weekend, and remember that all teams will have their Origin representatives available (providing no injuries)!
Please join me back here Friday night for a wrap-up of the Brisbane v Parramatta & Canberra v Manly matches, while keep checking back over the weekend for all the latest reports, scores and table updates for NRL Round 12!
Remember, it’s not too late to enter the NRL News Footy Tipping competition, with the first prize being a 2008 NRL jersey of the team of their choice. Igornodrog continues to lead this year’s competition, with the guru tipster still leading on 55. However, eastsideboy is only 2 point behind on 53, with the resurgent GIVE THE FAT A WHACK 1 point further back. And both Anth3000 (51) and t-roy69 (51) are still within striking distance in equal fourth – still a long season to go though!

Brisbane Broncos v Parramatta Eels
Will Lockyer play – that’s the big question? I believe that he won’t, purely because of the heavy rain the South East QLD is currently producing, which puts the Eels in with a great chance. Parramatta has a great record against the Broncos in Brisbane, but their form in season ’08 is fairly ordinary. I want to go with my heart, but I will listen to my head – Broncos by 8Canberra Raiders v Manly Se-Eagles
The Raiders are a truly tough team to beat on their home turf, and given Manly’s poor performance against the Dragons last Friday night, an upset surely looms. The Sea-Eagles have a tough draw over the next month (Parramatta, Brisbane and New Zealand), and they need to win this keep pace with the competition leaders. With the Raiders still having a host of personnel unavailable through injury, I am sticking with Manly in a nail biter – Sea-Eagles by 2Melbourne Storm v Canterbury Bulldogs
Given the Bulldogs injury crisis (no Sonny Bill, Utai, Hickey, Armit, Cleal, Tonga, Patten, Tsoulos just to name a few), you would have to be a staunch Bulldogs supporter to tip against a full-strength Storm outfit at their Olympic Park Graveyard – Storm by 20Newcastle Knights v New Zealand Warriors
Still no Kurt Gidley for the Knights, but they have been boosted by the return of Jarrod Mullen. Both teams have last their last 2 matches, so will be keen to grab victory here to keep pace with the top eight. With the Warriors still yet to taste victory away from home, and the Knights fairly solid at home, I will stay with the Knights in a close one – Knights by 6North QLD Cowboys v Penrith Panthers
Will the Cowboys new coach bring a change in attitude for the misfiring Cowboys? Ian Millward takes the helm this week, and it will be interesting to see how the out of sorts Cowboys respond. Penrith have been sailing under the radar somewhat this season, and have snuck into 6th courtesy of two straight victories. However, I think the Cowboys may just be able to turn their season around this week – Cowboys by 8South Sydney Rabbitohs v St George-Illawarra Dragons
The last time the Bunnies experienced a week of turmoil co-incided with their only victory of season ’08 – will history repeat? The Dragons have won two straight and look a much more composed line-up, but will be missing Mark Gasnier for this clash. Despite the sniff of an upset, I am still going to tip the Dragons by10Cronulla Sharks v Gold Coast Titans
The Titans have a great opportunity to arrest their worrisome away record when they take on a Sharks team that appears to be struggling with confidence. Cronulla surrendered meekly to the Bulldogs last Monday night, and coach Ricky Stuart will be expecting an improved performance against the equal competition leading Gold Coast. I have an inkling of an upset at Toyota Park this Sunday, so I will tip the Sharks by 4Sydney Roosters v Wests Tigers
Two of the competitions in form teams will battle it out at ANZ Stadium on Monday night, with the Roosters aiming to keep their place in first position with their fourth straight victory here. The Tigers now have a load more attacking options now that Hodgson, Marshall, Head and Fulton are all fit, but they meet a Sydney side choc full of attacking options. In what is sure to be an exciting encounter, I will stick with the Roosters on the basis of a more settled and explosive line-up – Roosters by 6| 66 |
