NRL News Footy Tips - Round 14
June 12th 2008 23:41
Sorry about the wait!
Due to time constraints, here is a quick guide to my tips for this weeks Round 14 action.
Remember, it’s not too late to enter the NRL News Footy Tipping competition, with the first prize being a 2008 NRL jersey of the team of their choice. And after 13 rounds of tipping, Igornodrog still leads this years competition, with the guru tipster out in front on 65 points, despite not putting his tips in last week. With igornodrogs costly blunder, eastsideboy (64) has moved into clear second spot and only one point off the lead, with t-roy69 (63) only one point further behind. Anth3000 and GIVE THE FAT A WHACK are both within striking distance on 62 points.Still a long season to go though!

Sydney Roosters v Penrith Panthers
On paper, the Roosters should win easily, but will have four Origin players backing up, compared to the Panthers solitary one. Both sides were last round losers; although Penrith showed great spirit in fighting back to almost steal victory over the Sharks after the siren. The Roosters were smashed by the Sea-Eagles, but were missing a few players. Tough to pick, but I will stay with the Roosters on the basis of a more stable halves combination – Roosters by 8Cronulla Sharks v New Zealand Warriors
This will be an interesting clash, with the Warriors out to make amends after a surprise home loss to the Rabbitohs, while the Sharks look to make it three from three with a new attacking edge to their game. Both sides should have two players Origin backing up, but the Sharks need to rectify their poor ’08 record at Toyota Park. Not much in this one, but I will stick with the home side – Sharks by 6Canberra Raiders v Brisbane Broncos
Despite the Broncos Origin contingent backing up, they should still have too much strike power for an injury riddled Raiders outfit. With David Milne (knee) and Scott Logan (suspension) added to a group of six unavailable Canberra players, the Broncos should have too much class in this one – Broncos by 8 Wests Tigers v Parramatta Eels
The clash of the round, and hopefully the wet weather will stay away on Sunday, as this promises to be a belter! The Tigers are hitting their straps just at the right time, with their scintillating attack being the highlight of their last start thrashing of the Cowboys. Parramatta are just starting to find form, although there defence would still be a major concern for coach Michael Hagan. This should be a high-scoring affair, but given the Tigers are down few key forwards, I will take the Eels in a thriller – Eels by 8North QLD Cowboys v Newcastle Knights
I am tipping an upset here, despite the Cowboys losing their last six matches! I think Thurston maybe just on the cusp of a return to form, and Newcastle’s form of late has not been that impressive. The Knights will have three Origin players backing up, and may face a Cowboys ambush – Cowboys by 6| 48 |

According to all reports, Thurston has been declared fit by coach Ian Millward today, but Danny Buderus is struggling to play in the Monday night match!
Hope that helps!
