May 9th 2008 00:04
THANK YOU BUNNIES!!
Thanks to the Rabbitohs first victory of the season, this particular NRL tipster finally picked a perfect round – albeit in a shortened NRL week. Thanks to a last minute change of heart, I decided to change my tip to Souths after hearing about the Cowboys injury/suspension woes, thus resulting in my first perfect score in just over a year.
Please join me back here Friday night for a wrap-up of the Australia v New Zealand match, while keep checking back over the weekend for all the latest reports, scores and table updates for NRL Round 9!
Remember, it’s not too late to enter the NRL News Footy Tipping competition, with the first prize being a 2008 NRL jersey of the team of their choice. Igornodrog continues to lead this years competition, with the guru tipster leading on 42. However, t-roy69 (40) has charged back into contention thanks to a 4 from 5 effort last week, to now trail by only two points. And both eastsideboy (39) and Anth3000 (38) are still within striking distance in third and fourth respectively – still a long season to go though!

Sydney Roosters vs Canberra Raiders
The Roosters will have 5 players backing up from Friday nights Test match, and will be out to arrest a two game losing streak against the Raiders. Canberra has also lost their last two games, and will find it tough against a star studded Roosters outfit.

North QLD Cowboys vs Cronulla Sharks
This match will largely depend on the availability of the Cowboys Johnathan Thurston – if he plays, then I am tipping the home side, but if he doesn’t back-up/recover from Friday’s Test match, then I think the visitors will have too much firepower.
Sharks by 4
Canterbury Bulldogs vs Penrith Panthers
In the toughest game of the round to tip, he Bulldogs will be hoping that Sonny Bill Williams pulls though Friday’s Test unscathed, as the Doggies need his presence to ensure victory. Penrith’s defence was deplorable at times last start against the Eels, and they will need to rectify this if they are to have any chance of winning.
In a toss of the coin job, I am going to stick with the slightly more impressive Canterbury side.

Brisbane Broncos vs Manly Sea-Eagles
Both of these sides are largely unaffected by Test match representation which is strange given the history of both clubs. Brisbane head into this match at close to full strength, with only Lockyer and Hodges their real injury concerns. Manly however travel to Brisbane with big guns Orford and Stewart in doubt, with both players given less then 50-50 chances of playing.
Despite the Sea-Eagles injuries, I still think that the Broncos will be too strong, especially on Mother’s Day on their home turf.

Parramatta Eels vs St George- Illawarra Dragons
Both sides have struggled thus far in season ’08, but loyal supporters of both clubs also know that these two sides always finish the season strongly. The Eels showed what they are capable of in a 4 try, 20 minute burst against the Panthers last Sunday, and coach Michel Hagan will want his players to be switched on the full eighty minutes. Much will depend on which Dragons outfit turns up to play – the attacking juggernaut that put the Roosters to the sword on ANZAC Day, or will it be the lethargic joint venture that has turned up for most games this year?
Eels by 6
Melbourne Storm vs Newcastle Knights
The Knights to travel to the Olympic Park ‘graveyard’ full of confidence thanks to their gutsy one point victory over the Titans last week, but will find this trip south an even tougher assignment. Hopefully the Knights will have the services of Kurt Gidley for this intriguing encounter, as the plucky utility is crucial to the visitor’s chances of an upset.
Despite a number of Storm players backing up from the Test, its just too hard to tip against the Storm at home.

Gold Coast, Wests, South Sydney and New Zealand have the bye
