NRL Round 4 Footy Tips
April 3rd 2008 11:09
Well, Round 3 of the NRL saw yet another poor weekend of tipping for most punters, with this year’s competition well and truly the closest on record. There is not one easy game to tip again this weekend, and after my paltry four correct tips last weekend, I may well just resort to a game of head-or-tails to help me this weekend!
Please check back here later tonight for full match summaries of both the Storm v Broncos and Bulldogs v Roosters matches, whilst be sure to visit here tomorrow night for my match report of the Titans v Raiders match, live from Skilled Park.
For the remaining NRL fans, I will still be covering the other weekend matches, however due to time constraints; I will be only posting match reports for one Sunday match, as well as the Monday Night Football game. I will be providing short match summaries for the other three matches though, as well as complete results and NRL Table updates throughout the weekend.
Fans of the new Toyota Under 20 competition should check back each weekend, as I will be providing complete match reports on select games each round.
Remember, it’s not too late to enter the NRL News Footy Tipping competition, with the first prize being a 2008 NRL jersey of the team of their choice. A huge congratulations must go to both igornodrog and Anth3000 for tipping a perfect 8 from 8 last weekend, with their brilliant foresight handing them a two point buffer on the rest of the field. Igornodrog leads on 19, with Anth3000 hot on his heels on 18. Both PMell and Yugogirl are sitting in third on 16 points, whilst the rest of the field has a bit of catching up to do, with the rest of us struggling on 14 points or worse.

Which leads me into my tips for the Round 4 action!

Bulldogs v Roosters
Bulldogs fans have been eagerly awaiting this Round 4 clash, hoping that their beloved ‘Doggies will unleash hell upon Roosters Mason, O’Meley, Anasta, Tonga and Myles. The former Canterbury quintet will receive special treatment from a fired up Bulldogs outfit, with media reports suggesting that Sonny Bill Williams is set to stage a personal war against former team-mate Mason.
After the traditional softening up period, look to the Roosters to control play through Anasta’s huge, precision boot, with the Roosters seemingly offering a bit more in attack then their fired up rivals.
Roosters by 4
Storm v Broncos
This match was going to be another Friday night blockbuster, before the premiership leading Broncos suffered injuries to PJ Marsh and Justin Hodges. With doubts on Lockyer’s knee, I believe that Brisbane will be missing too many attacking options against the Storm’s near impenetrable defensive unit, despite the brilliant early season form of Peter Wallace.
Look to the Storm to bounce back with a win.
Storm by 8
Dragons v Sharks
The Dragons will be keen to rectify their woeful performance against the Raiders last Saturday, with a strong showing against the injury ravaged Sharks. Cronulla will be without the services of the suspended Gallen, and the injured Seymour and Williams, and will also be searching for a marked form reversal after last week’s poor showing against the Titans.
St George-Illawarra look to be to strong on paper in this clash – Dragons by 8
Titans v Raiders
Look to the Titans to continue their imposing home record with a strong victory over an undermanned Raiders outfit that notoriously struggle on the road. The Gold Coast have no such injury worries though, and will be looking to again please their adoring fans with another strong performance here.
Titans by 16
Cowboys v Eels
This is a real danger match for the Parramatta side, facing a Cowboys team that is struggling for both form and consistency. The Cowboys are languishing on the bottom of the ladder, having lost their opening three matches by big scores, and will be hoping that a week of soul searching will lift them to an inspired performance in-front of an expectant home crowd.
As much as it breaks my heart, I am tipping the Cowboys to notch up their first win of the season, given that the Eels will be missing the services of Riddell, Inu, Smith and Robinson.
Cowboys by 4
Sea-Eagles v Rabbitohs
Manly will be looking to make it back-to-back victories at Brookvale this Sunday, when they face off against a desperate Rabbitohs outfit searching for their opening victory of the season. The Sea-Eagles bounced back to form with an emphatic 52-6 thrashing of the Warriors on Monday night, and given Souths current injury crisis, would be expecting a similar result this Sunday.
Manly by 16
Tigers v Panthers
This will be an intriguing battle at Campbelltown Stadium on Monday night, with the resurgent Panthers looking to continue their recent form with a rare away victory. The Tigers will be fired up after losing convincingly to the Bulldogs last Sunday, and are always a formidable opponent at Campbelltown.
Look for the mobile Tigers to be too strong for the error-prone Panthers, despite an injury cloud hanging over Wests inspirational hooker, Robbie Farah.

I'm not sure if you should change your tip. I'm going to stick with the Cowboys, mainly because I can't be bothered editing my post, but I still think they're in with a solid chance of victory without Bowen.
