Off Season NRL News and Gossip
December 7th 2006 22:51
As is the case with every rugby league off season, fans and journalists alike always like to chat about the latest rugby league rumour that they have heard. The merry go round of speculation and innuendo is in full swing once again this year, and below are some of the 'major' revelations to have been discussed amongst rugby league 'experts'.
Signing Rumours -
* Apparaently Bulldog superstar Sonny Bill Williams is set to leave his beloved Belmore based club, and head to the arch enemy, the Sydney Roosters in 2008. Either that or he will go England - but we won't know more until mid-2007 (gee funny that - but it sold a few newspapers over the quiet off season)
* Bulldog team mate Mark O'Meley is set to follow Williams out of Canterbury, and has been linked with (shock horror) the Roosters or Cronulla. Or he may just seek out that contract upgrade from the 'Dogs so he can stay there for life - (more off season speculation that we've heard before)
* Andrew Johns is the next player to leave the NRL, and it appears as early as season 2008. Johns is contracted to the Knights until the end of the 2008 NRL season, but the 'intense media spotlight' and 'lucrative contract' could see him cut short his two tear contract, and head for the Warrington Wolves. I am sure this story gets rehashed every year, and could it be a prelude to the 'Brian Smith VS Andrew Johns' fight that is sure to be rolled out come January??
More intriguing off season goosip to follow over the next couple of days.........
There has actually been some serious news items this off season though, and below is a few snippets.
NRL News Items-
* Bulldog Willie Mason has been training with NFL side the New York Jets as the first tentative step to kicking off a possible NFL career.
* QRL stalwart club the Toowoomba Clydesdales have to withdraw from the Wizard Cup effective immediately, citing a lack of funds due to the Brisbane Broncos severing ties due to the commencement of the National Under 20's competition.
* St George-Illawarra Dragons have signed a new 5 year partnership with Foster's Australia, for the use of the Foster's brand in both their League's Clubs and home grounds.
* ARU recruit Matt Rogers looks set to be joining the Gold Coast Titans earlier than expected, with the ARU set to allow Rogers to escape fromhis last year of his contract. Rogers wants to escape Sydney due to the constant media intrusions after his father Steve's tragic death this year, and is looking for a fresh start in Queensalnd.
* The Titans VS Storm standoff is liklely to be solved soon, with both sides admitting that renegade winger Steve Turner will most likely be staying in Melbourne next season. Both parties are curently working on compensation packages for the Titans, which is rumoured to be a $100,000 and the addition of two young Melbourne players as a fair trade off.

.... I follow everything in the NRL and it just so happens the hotel I front desk at is the Hotel the Melbourne Storms Grand Final and the Australian Team 2008 accommodated at and while summerising bookings I was shocked to find one of our best Suits had been booked by a Greg Inglis at $800 per night in which he spent over time 8 nights with a lady who was not Sally Robison (long term partner) He would book earlier in the week and she would arrive through out the weekend, other staff members had seen the two have intimate sessions on the balcony and passionate sessions in the hallways via Security Survailence! Rumour has it that Greg has gone off the rails in the off season with binge drinking and unsociable behaviour... this is not the Conservative Greg Inglis we all love
