The Jetstar Gold Coast Titans Fan Day
January 9th 2007 03:04
Not even inclement weather conditions could stop about 500 diehard rugby league fans from attending the Jetstar Gold Coast Titans open training session at Miami this morning.
The full compliment of the Titans playing roster completed a sharp ball work session on the damp Pizzey Park surface, whilst fans jostled for protection from the drizzly conditions to watch their heroes go through their paces. This was one of the first times that Gold Coasters were able to witness big signings Preston Campbell, Scott Prince, Richie Mathers and Jake Webster unite with their team mates, as all but Prince had been battling injury problems prior to the New Years break.
Training under the astute eyes of John Cartwright, Trevor Gillmeister, Billy Johnstone and Scott Sattler, the fledgling team looked sharp, fit and focussed ahead of their debut season. The only injury concern was Matt ‘Sideshow Bob’ Petersen seemingly twisting his ankle on the slippery surface, but the injury did not look too serious.
After the hour and a half long session, the fans were rewarded for their dedication with the squad spending hours signing Titans merchandise for their new supporter base. It was great to see players like Scott Prince, Brett Delaney and Richie Mathers pose for photos and autographs with the kids, whilst Luke Bailey and Preston Campbell handled the throng of media interviews with aplomb.
Check out the photos below, and please join us tomorrow as we continue our spotlight on off season news for all 16 NRL clubs, with tomorrow focus on the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Cheers,

Realistically, the Titans should grab a finals spot if they remain injury free, but it is going to be a tough season for them if either Prince or Campbell go down injured.
They should be aiming for the eight with their playing roster, but I just hope that Gold Coast supporters don't expect too much too soon.

ON THEIR BOOKS.HOWEVER THEY ARE STILL GOING TO NEED TIME TO GEL AS A UNIT A FACTOR THAT COULD GO AGAINST THEM, AND AS YOU HAVE ALREADY STATED INJURIES TO A COUPLE OF KEY PLAYERS WOULD BE A DESASTER. DEPTH OF TALENT IS EVERYTHING IN THIS GAME WITHOUT IT YOUR NOWHERE. MIGHT AS WELL SIT WITH THE FAT LADY & START SINGING.

I think you and I both know all about depth, considering how our injury depleted teams went in 2006!
But your dead right - you can have as many quality signings as you want, but if injury strikes and you don't have the quality depth to cover it, than essentialy you can kiss your season goodbye!

Yeah, I meant to edit that some time ago - that shot was actually taken about 50 metres away, and from where I was standing, it looked like Richie!!
My apologies to Richie and Richies followers!
